Answer: 1) A 5-foot log cut into 5 equal parts normally requires four cuts, ie 20 minutes.
2) Two out of the three people are sons and two of the three are fathers – grandfather, father and son. Three people, three cars.
3) 50 cents and a nickel. “One” is not a nickel (but the other one is).

Question: Quadratics help? Please?
1. Find the x value or values at which the parabola y = x^2 + 5x + 4 crosses the x-axis. If the parabola does not cross the x-axis, write “It does not cross the x-axis”.
2. Give the usual ax^2 + bx + c form of the quadratic function which has a = 1, and has two zeros z = -5 and z = 3
These are some select problems that I’m not sure about out of a bunch that I get from the math from random worksheets I downloaded to teach myself Alg 2 over the summer. I numbered them for the convenience of answering. Quadratics are odd. If anyone can solve all of them it would be great, because I learn best from seeing it done… Thanks for all your help! I will award best answer asap to the most thorough answers!
Answer: q1
y = x^2 + 5x + 4
= (x + 1)(x + 4) = 0
x-intercepts are at (-1,0) and (-4,0).
q2
y = 1(x+5)(x-3)
= x^2 + 2x – 15
b = 2, c = -15
