Math Worksheets Dividing Fractions
Question: Please explain the process of dividing fractions to me!?
I understand the process (divide the numerator by the denominator). But what I don’t understand is the dividing. My math teacher explained it to us, but I have trouble copying everything down and comprehending all of it (she goes really fast). She gave us a worksheet today with the following on it:
______________________________________…
Write each fraction or mixed number as a decimal. Use bar notation if the decimal is a repeating decimal.
1. 19/20
2. 23/50
3. 19/25
______________________________________…
I understand what bar notation and repeating decimals are. Can you please show me the process of dividing these fractions? Don’t necessarily give me the answer; just show me how you get the answer. For example:
____
20 ) 19
show me how to work this problem. Thank you so much and you don’t have to spend too much time helping me I’m just having a hard time.
Answer: this is difficult to explain in text, but i’ll try by explaining #1…
so u set it up like:
____
20) 19
then u see that 20 can’t go into 19, so you put a decimal above the 9 where you put the answer, and a “.0″ after the 19 (because 19.0 is the same as 19)
___.__
20) 19.0
then you divide 20 into 190…. (ignore the decimal in the 19 part….) and then put the answer after the decimal point where u would normally put the answer.
___.9___
20) 19.0
– 180
__________
10
then you add another “0″ after the “19.0″ and drop down that zero and get…
___.9__
20) 19.00
-180
___________
100
then divide 20 into 100 and get 5… which u put next to the 9 in the answer. so your answer is “0.95″
I hope that helps.
