Question: I need help with two practice math problems?

I’m trying to get ready for a test in my math class but I totally forgot how to factor! I have two math problems that I found that are like the ones on my review worksheet. Could somebody please help me by showing me the steps on how to do each of them?

1. Factor 3x^3 + 5x^2 – 6x – 10

2. Factor 5ab – 8abc

What are the Prime numbers between 0 and 10?

The numbers to consider are 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. 

Recall the definition of Prime numbers:

Prime numbers are counting numbers that can be divided evenly by only two numbers which is one and itself. A prime number has exactly two factors, 1 and itself (prime factor). 

  • 0 has only one factor = 0 so 0 is not a prime number.
  • 1 has only one factor = 1 so 1 is not a prime number.
  • 2 has 2 factors = 1 and 2 so 2 is a prime number. 1 is a factor of 2 because 1 divides evenly into 2. 2 is also a factor of 2 since 2 divided by 2 is 1, an even number. 
  • 3 has 2 factors = 1 and 3.
    • Note that 2 is not a factor of 3 because 3 divided by 2 does not give a whole number. 3 divided by 2 is 1.5. So, 2 is not a factor of 3.
