Math Worksheets Making Change

Question: How would you do these few math problems?

I’m in eighth grade and this is a worksheet about the Olympics. I don’t really understand how to do a few problems.

1. It gives the number of participating nations, number of athletes, and number of events for each year the Winter Olympics were held (example: 1924 – 16 – 258 – 16). It starts in 1924. The problem says using the information for the year of the games (let 1920 be represented by X = 0) and the number of nations participating. How do I make this into a scatter plot. I only see it being a line graph.

2. To estimate the grade of this skiing course, you need to use slope. Slope is the measure of vertical change divided by horizontal change. The grade is the slope multiplied by 100. For the course, you are given the vertical change but not the horizontal change.

The picture is a right Triangle. The vertical side is 840 M, the bottom is unknown, and the diagnal line is 2,923 meters.

* I don’t just want the answers, I want to know how to do them.

Answer: 1. A line graph is a scatter graph with a line of best fit.

2. 840^2+b^2=2923^2, Pythagoras, you can work the rest out.

Calculate the values of a, b and c.

Answer:

Answer: 1. The reciprocal of a faction is the fraction turned upside down. For example, the reciprocol of 1/2 is 2/1.

2. A number as the product of its Prime factors: multiply the prime number factors together to get the number. For example, the Prime factors of 12 are 3*2*2.

3. The highest common factor is found by factoring each number and finding the highest number they have in common as a factor. For example, 15 and 10 have 5 as their highest common factor. (Factors are number that multiplied together equal the number.)

4. The lowest common multiple can be found by finding the Prime factors of the numbers and taking the largest groups of each and multiplying them together. For example, the factors of 50 are 2*5*5; the factors of 12 are 2*2*3. So the lowest common multiple is 2*2*3*5*5.
